To update your Ford SYNC®3 Navigation System, follow these steps: INSTALLATION OF FORD MAP UPDATER Visit ford.naviextras.com and download the proper operating system version of Map Updater After installation, start Map Updater Create an account by adding: A valid email address A password Your vehicle’s VIN number for identi-fication. Nov 06, 2013 I called Ford customer service today to ask about Sync updates. In the US, you can download them and install them yourself. The UK site just says 'soon you will be able to.' My father-in-law has a 63 plate and this version is two later than my 13 plate. Has anyone request an update via their dealer.
After a lot of searching, reading and translating, I came across direct links to Ford servers hosting the official EU upgrade files for Sync 2. No need to sign up to the Ford India website, just download, extract to the root of a FAT32 formatted USB stick and away you go.
I did use the Ford India website to determine which language pack matches to my VIN for use in the UK. It shouldn’t really matter as all EU language packs include British English, but I get a bit OCD so wanted to know which one Ford would use. That turned out to be Language Pack 5.
I have read that you may need a minimum of the F4 SD card or newer, however everyone with Sync 2 in the EU should have F4 following the recall (if you have Nav fitted).
Here is the full list of the Oct 15 update, if you are not from the UK, but another EU country, you need to make sure you download the correct language pack to include the language you want to be able to speak (and have spoken) to the car in:
Language Pack 1 – German, English (British), Russian, Turkish:
Language Pack 2 – German, English (British), Polish, Russian:
Language Pack 3 – German, English (British), French, Italian:
Language Pack 4 – German, English (British), French, Swedish:
Language Pack 5 – English (British), Spanish, French, Portuguese:
http://ivsu.binaries.ford.com/swparts/Gen2v38build15128updatepackageEULangpack5Rev2.zip – This is the one I used
Language Pack 6 – German, English (British), French, Dutch:
US/NA Only (for our cousins across the pond):
Once you have downloaded and extracted the zip to the root of a USB drive (min 2GB formatted as FAT32), you need to remove all other USB sticks/devices from the ports on the car (Nav SD can be left in), then start the engine and turn off auto/stop start. Plug the USB in and it should auto detect the update files, then just follow the on screen instructions. You need to give yourself at least 30 mins for the update to install, in that time you can drive the car, but remember that anything normally displayed on the screen will not be available (rear view cam, sensor distance, etc.).
Big thanks to this post on focus fanatics for the url and available files.
Ford Sync 3 Map Updates
Friday 6th April 2018
Anyone had any luck getting information out of Ford Regarding Sync 3 and map updates. Half of my own housing estate doesn't exist on my Sync 3 system, so the system gets into a right mess as I approach.
Two Ford Dealers have responded to me as if I'm demanding something unreasonable & have simply said no update exists and nothing more to discuss - despite my maps being from 2014!! They wouldn't register my complaint, only going as far as taking my details (which they have as they sold me the fking vehicle) and assuring me they would tell me when an update was available.
Ford UK customer service were laughably appalling at just saying an update was made available at the start of the year (2.2 -> 2.3, even though this wasn't a map update), and couldn't be convinced this update wasn't (after I chased my local dealer...) a map update. She could only assure me more would be released 'in due course'.
Escalated to Head office who rang me and told me to speak to my Dealer & there was nothing more they could do! 'As I can only repeat to contact your dealer, I will now need to terminate this call' .....but my dealer is the reason why I am contacting the Ford UK head office now!!!!
Anyone tried anything else?

I had my 2017 Focus serviced this week and the dealer checked for updates to Sync 3 and maps and said there were none available, as well.
Wasn’t Sync 3 released in 2017?

It was, but by the looks of it they Carried the map's over, or bought old ones. My system says EU 2014 against their system codes.

Also to add, check what version your sync is 3 is. They released version 2.3 in February! Our dealer updated ours after I bought it to their attention. Wasn’t Sync 3 released in 2017?

The whole terminating your call thing is a nice trick, eh.

I have Sync 3 in my August 2016 Mustang. Agree that the out of date maps are incredibly annoying!

Dad's 2015 Focus ST3 is sync as it has the premium sound pack (subwoffer) but those maps are on an SD card. Can you just buy a newer card on eBay? Dad's is F4, would buying an F6 (or newer) card work?

Oh right. I thought it was 3 as it had the sub.
No. Sub has no bearing on whether it's a sync 2 or 3.Sync 2 uses SD card maps. Sync 3 is HDD.

The map is still three years out of date, though...I just keep being told there's no update available and to keep waiting. I can't stream Spotify any longer, the maps are out of date, the system hangs/crashes all the time. Really poor form from Ford. Wednesday 11th April 2018

I logged on, input my VIN and it told me there was an update. Successfully downloaded it but nothing happens when I plug the USB stick with the d/l on into one of the ports in the car (I'm definitely doing it right as I've watched the Ford videos and got the printed instructions).https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support...
I'm currently on Sync 3 v2.2, but I gather from the post above that v2.3 is available. What the download doesn't tell you is what version it is downloading. I'm wondering if it's actually giving me the version I already have and that's why it won't install.

According to the Ford dealer who serviced the car last week there are no updates to the version I already have, but I'd not be surprised if they've got that wrong.
If I try to do an update via wifi it also doesn't offer me a later version that v2.2. Hmm, strange.

Ford told me the one you can download doesn't work...... After I downloaded it and spent hours trying to install it.
Take it off the f&cking website then.

My car (2017 SMax) is on Sync 2.3 now, and the website says there's an update available, but not which version, and I'm not currently able to make the 2.8GB download to find out! (I'll do so later). I have looked a couple of times using WiFi whilst in the car, but it's always said there's nothing to download.
There is a v3.0 in the wild, so hopefully it's this: http://www.focusrs.org/forum/30-focus-rs-electroni...

Just bought a Jan 2017 SMax Vignale 210ps pimp mobile.
Last week, I updated Sync 3 to version 3.0 using USB stick, straightforward as long as you research the process on the web.
Pretty disappointed when I checked the map version after update and saw it was still at EU 04/14. 4 year old maps in a 14 month old car!
Had the usual dealer says 'Speak to Ford CS' & when you do, Ford CS says 'Speak to dealer'.
I asked Ford CS why it was impossible for them to get a release date schedule from the Technical Department working on mapping. Answer was '...we have the information about updates - There is no information' Some Customer Service!
I have given up on Sync 3 navigation & am using Apple Maps via Apple Car Play. Was a bit reluctant as Apple Maps had a bad rep but latest version on IOS 11 is okay imo, with up to date maps and live traffic. It's quite neat to have iPhone looking interface for phone / texts & music plus Spotify. I read that map date is drawn from 'TomTom & others.'
Drawbacks with Apple Maps are:
a) No way to add multiple waypoints, (other than a divert to preset categories of stop, eg Fuel / Restaurants etc.)
b) If you lose mobile signal it only holds data along an already planned and active route. If you make a major detour out of signal , it won't have new routing information until you pick up a mobile signal again. If you drive in areas with good mobile coverage this cease to be an issue.
I did try using a slave Android phone to be left permanently in the car connected by usb cable so I could use Android Auto / Google Maps. Problem was that it stopped bluetooth connection of my iPhone which is my everyday mobile. Sync 3 allows two phones to use the system BUT only using Bluetooth and not when using Android Auto. Also, map screen with Google Maps was a bit washed out, Apple Maps has stronger colours and is clearer in use.
I may reconsider when Sync 3 maps get updated or if Waze appears on Sync 3 as promised.

Apologies to the OP, Andehh, as this doesn't answer his question about map updates (so far as I can see, there aren't any), but it may help anyone who is trying to update to the latest version of Sync 3 and happens to be using a Mac, rather than a PC.
In spite of being told to the contrary by the Ford Main Dealer there IS an update available to Sync 3 (available here: https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support... ). Putting my VIN number in said there was a download available, although it didn't say what version (it turns out it was Sync 3 version 3.0, rather than the v2.3 I was expecting).
Once downloaded the instructions are to unzip the file. This is where the Mac mucked things up. Whilst the built-in Archive Utility unzipped the file, it didn't create the correct folder names/file structure, so I kept getting error messages when trying to install. After a bit of Googling I discovered that using one of the following: Stuffit Expander, DrUnarchiver or The Unarchiver expanded the zipped file and kept the correct naming convention.
You should end up with the following installed on the ExFAT formatted USB drive: autoinstall.lst; DONTINDX.MSA and a folder named SyncMyRide (as a side note, at this point the files within the SyncMyRide folder are still in a compressed format. Don't expand those as they get expanded on the fly during the software update of Sync 3 once the USB stick is plugged into the car).
After that it was straightforward, although it probably took about half an hour in total. Within the link above are the instructions for doing the actual installation. Worth noting that the screen re-booted half-way during the install, then did nothing for a few minutes and then phase two of the install started. Be sure not to unplug the USB stick until you see the instruction to do so on screen.
Bit of a long-winded post, but it may save someone some of the agro I had, all because the Mac doesn't natively expand the installer file correctly.
